What to know before installing a charger in Carmarthen
Carmarthen is a historic market town with Georgian and Victorian streets, where on-street parking is common, post-war and newer estates in Johnstown and Pensarn with drives and garages, and many rural and village homes with long drives. A home charger is simplest where there is a driveway.
Carmarthen, Llandeilo and many villages have conservation areas and listed buildings, so check before fixing a charger to the front of a period home. Rural drives can mean a longer cable run.
Wales uses the same UK government chargepoint grants as England, so renters and flat owners with private off-street parking may get up to £500. The local network is run by National Grid Electricity Distribution, which your installer notifies about the new chargepoint.

EV charger grants in Carmarthen
Homes in Wales can use the same UK government EV chargepoint grant: 75% of the cost, up to £500, for renters and flat owners with private off-street parking, plus a separate grant for households with only on-street parking that install a cross-pavement solution. Homeowners in houses with their own driveway are not currently eligible.
EV charger questions in Carmarthen
Do I need planning permission for a home charger in Carmarthen?
Usually not. Most wall-mounted home chargers are permitted development. Listed buildings and some conservation areas, such as Carmarthen and Llandeilo, are the exception, so your installer may suggest checking with Carmarthenshire County Council first.
I live in a flat with allocated parking. Can I get a charger?
Often, yes, with the agreement of your building’s management company or freeholder. As a flat owner or renter with private off-street parking, you may also be able to claim the UK government grant of up to £500.
How much does a home EV charger installation cost?
It depends on the charger you choose, how far the cable needs to run from your consumer unit to your parking space, and whether your electrics need any upgrades. That is why it pays to compare quotes: our vetted installers will give you a fixed price after looking at your property.
How long does installation take?
A standard home installation is usually completed in half a day to a day. Your installer will tell you if your property needs extra work, such as a consumer unit upgrade.
