What to know before installing a charger in Omagh
Omagh is a market town with Victorian and Edwardian terraces near the centre, where on-street parking is common, detached and semi-detached homes with drives and garages in the suburbs, and a great many rural homes with long drives across County Tyrone. A home charger is simplest where there is a driveway.
Omagh’s centre and several villages have conservation areas and listed buildings, so check before fixing a charger to the front of an older home. Rural drives can mean a longer cable run, and your installer must notify NIE Networks of every new home chargepoint.
In Northern Ireland the electricity network is run by NIE Networks, and every new home chargepoint must be notified to them. An experienced installer handles this for you, so make sure it is included in your quote. The UK government grant of up to £500 applies in Northern Ireland to renters and flat owners with private parking.

EV charger grants in Omagh
Northern Ireland homes can use the UK government EV chargepoint grant: 75% of the cost, up to £500, for renters and flat owners with private off-street parking. Homeowners in houses with their own driveway are not currently eligible. Your installer will also notify NIE Networks of the new chargepoint before or when it is installed.
EV charger questions in Omagh
Do I need planning permission for a home charger in Omagh?
Usually not. Most wall-mounted home chargers are permitted development. Listed buildings and some conservation areas, such as Omagh town centre and Fintona, are the exception, so your installer may suggest checking with Fermanagh & Omagh District Council first.
I live in a flat with allocated parking. Can I get a charger?
Often, yes, with the agreement of your building’s management company or freeholder. As a flat owner or renter with private off-street parking, you may also be able to claim the UK government grant of up to £500.
How much does a home EV charger installation cost?
It depends on the charger you choose, how far the cable needs to run from your consumer unit to your parking space, and whether your electrics need any upgrades. That is why it pays to compare quotes: our vetted installers will give you a fixed price after looking at your property.
How long does installation take?
A standard home installation is usually completed in half a day to a day. Your installer will tell you if your property needs extra work, such as a consumer unit upgrade.
